48 Hours in Quebec City: Best Things to See, Eat & Explore

Travel is one of my greatest joys — there’s something magical about arriving in a new place for the first time. It feels like a fresh start, a new perspective. Experiencing different cultures, tasting local cuisine, and walking through a city’s history is not just exciting — it’s deeply meaningful.

I recently had the chance to enjoy a short and fun 48 hours in Quebec City, and I was completely charmed. The locals are welcoming, full of personality, and clearly proud of their beautiful city — and with good reason. From the cobblestone streets of Old Quebec to the delicious food and rich cultural history, there’s so much to explore, even on a quick trip.

So, how do you make the most of a weekend in Quebec City? Here’s how we spent two days exploring the culture, food, and charm of this unforgettable destination.

Top Things to Do in Quebec City in 2 Days

1. Montmorency Falls

Taller than Niagara Falls, Montmorency Falls is a breathtaking natural wonder just outside the city. The thunderous sound of the water and panoramic views offer a perfect escape into nature.

2. Explore Old Quebec

Walking the cobblestone streets of Old Quebec feels like stepping into a European fairytale. Admire historic architecture, browse charming boutiques, and soak in the street performers' energy. Don’t miss the Citadelle de Québec and the stunning Notre-Dame de Québec Basilica-Cathedral.

3. Savor the Flavors of Quebec

Empanadas

A trip to Quebec wouldn’t be complete without indulging in local cuisine. Here are a few foodie highlights:

  • Le Café De Paris: We had a peaceful breakfast by an open window filled with flowers, watching horse-drawn carriages roll by.

  • Pub St-Alexandre: Traditional poutine and live music — what more could you want? Have you tried Quebecois poutine?

  • Bistro La Cuisine  Just outside the city, this cozy family-run bistro offers delicious, comforting dishes in a warm, homey atmosphere where locals gather to laugh and play cards.

  • And of course, Les Glaces du Chateau for a refreshing scoop of French-style ice cream.

4. Visit Parliament Hill

One of the best surprises was the free guided tour of Quebec’s Parliament. It’s an eye-opening way to learn about the province’s political history. Our guide was informative and engaging — highly recommended!

Local Gem: BoChica Colombian Restaurant

We stayed just outside the city and stumbled upon BoChica, a family-run Colombian spot that instantly made us feel at home. The food was incredible, and the warm hospitality reminded us that travel is often about the people we meet along the way.

Thoughts: Is Quebec Worth Visiting for a Weekend?

Absolutely. Quebec City in 48 hours delivers a perfect blend of nature, history, culture, and cuisine. Whether you're wandering historic streets or enjoying a quiet meal with a view, every moment feels rich and meaningful.
